Bogota, Colombia (SportsNetwork.com) – Chase Wright was 5-under par through
eight holes on Saturday and he was two strokes clear of the field with the
third round of the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship suspended due to
Wright, who is in his second year on tour, stood at 13-under par when the
round was stopped. He will go for his first Web.com Tour title on Sunday.
Steve Marino was 3-under after eight holes on the Fundadores Course at Bogota
Country Club and was alone in second at minus-11.
Patrick Rodgers, Roberto Diaz, Zack Fischer and Tyler McCumber are tied for
third place at 10-under par.
Peter Tomasulo had the best round of the day going. He was 7-under par through
16 holes and stood alone in seventh place at minus-9.
There was a 1-hour, 50-minute weather delay on Sunday that further pushed play
back. The second round was completed earlier Saturday after storms halted
action on Friday.
Wright opened with a pair of pars and he followed with birdies on the third
and fourth to move to minus-10.
After a par on the fifth, Wright poured in three consecutive birdie chances
from the sixth to soar into the lead at 13-under.
Marino birdied the second to climb to 9-under. He ran off four pars in a row
from the third, then dropped in birdie efforts at the seventh and eighth to
move within two of the lead.
NOTES: Wright’s best tour finish came last year in his rookie season when he
tied for fourth at the Boise Open … When the second round finished earlier
Saturday, the cut fell at even-par 142 with 77 players advancing to the final
two rounds … The final round is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. ET on Sunday
with players remaining in the same groups.
