Boca Raton, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Paul Goydos fired a 6-under 66 on Friday
and he grabbed a share of the lead after the opening round of the Allianz
Championship.
Goydos was joined atop the leaderboard by Bart Bryant and Tom Pernice, Jr.
Goydos and Bryant both have one Champions Tour victory, while Pernice, who
shared second place here in 2013, won twice last year to raise his tour win
total to four.
Bernhard Langer, the 2010 champion, opened with a 67 on The Old Course at
Broken Sound Club. He stands alongside by Fred Funk and Tom Byrum in fourth
place at minus-5.
Brad Bryant, who tied for second at this event in 2008, headlines a group of
six players tied for seventh at 4-under 68. He was joined there by Mark
Brooks, Loren Roberts, Grant Waite, Peter Jacobsen and Roger Chapman.
Defending champion Michael Allen made eagle on the par-5 18th to post 2-under
70. He is tied for 19th.
