Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – Henrik Stenson successfully defended
his title with a 2-shot victory at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai on
Sunday and that vaulted him up to No. 2 in the world rankings.
Stenson, who has now won in Dubai the last two years, jumped over Adam Scott
and Bubba Watson to claim the No. 2 spot.
Rory McIlroy finished runner-up along with Justin Rose and Victor Dubuisson in
Dubai and he remained the top player in the world. After Stenson made his
jump, Scott and Watson fell one spot each, putting them at three and four,
respectively.
Sergio Garcia and Jim Furyk swapped spots, with Garcia jumping up to No. 5 and
Furyk falling to No. 6.
Rose, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Martin Kaymer,
Billy Horschel, Jordan Spieth and Graeme McDowell all stayed put this week and
they are Nos. 7-15.
Hideki Matsuyama defeated Hiroshi Iwata on the first playoff hole on Sunday to
win the Dunlop Phoenix in Japan. That victory helped Matsuyama improve four
spots to No. 16 in the world. Dubuisson’s runner-up finish in Dubai put him
into the top 20 and up to No. 17.
Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson and Christ Kirk all fell a pair and they are Nos.
18-20.
