Tucson, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) – Jerry Smith fired a 7-under 65 on Friday and
he grabbed a 2-shot lead after the opening round of the Tucson Conquistadores
Classic.
Smith is playing his third Champions Tour event of the season and sixth of his
career. He has never won in 238 career starts on the Web.com Tour, PGA Tour
and Champions Tour.
Colin Montgomerie, who won two majors last season, opened with a 5-under 67.
He was joined in second place by David Frost, Marco Dawson and Steve Pate.
Bart Bryant, who lost to Lee Janzen in a playoff at the ACE Group Classic a
month ago, shot 4-under 68. He shares sixth place on the Catalina Course at
Omni Tucson National Resort with Corey Pavin and Kirk Triplett.
Reigning Player of the Year Bernhard Langer headlines a group of 10 players at
minus-3.
