Hainan, China (SportsNetwork.com) – So Yeon Ryu carded a 4-under 69 in
Sunday’s final round and she came from behind to beat Inbee Park by two
strokes at the World Ladies Championship.
Ryu finished at 13-under-par 279 on the par-73 Blackstone Course at Mission
Hills. The 2011 U.S. Women’s Open champion claimed her first Ladies European
Tour title.
Park, last year’s champion, closed with a 2-under 71 and she ended alone in
second at minus-12.
Ryu bogeyed the first, but got that stroke back as she birdied the third. Both
Ryu and Park birdied the fifth and sixth. However, Ryu gave both shots back as
she faltered to a double-bogey at No. 7.
That left Ryu three shots back at minus-9. After Park bogeyed the eighth, Ryu
birdied the ninth to get within one. Ryu dropped in back-to-back birdies at 11
and 12 to grab the lead at 12-under.
Park joined Ryu atop the leaderboard with a birdie at the 16th. However, Ryu
answered with a birdie on No. 17. They both parred the last to give Ryu the
title.
Xi Yu Lin and Suzann Pettersen both closed with 3-under 70s. They shared third
place at 10-under 282.
