While not officially sanctioned by the PGA, the Franklin Templeton Shootout features the last chance to wager on major professional golfers. This event is unusual in many ways but has vulnerabilities that are exploitable for profit. How can this three day event that consists of two man teams translate to profit for the sport’s investor? Read on here at APEX Golf Betting as we attempt to pan for the gold that is here this weekend!
Know the Format
Three days starting on Thursday and culminating on Saturday. The format changes for each day and breaks down as the following :
- Day One is a scramble
- Friday is alternate shot day
- Saturday is the best ball format.
Twenty four players are let in and it has a variety of players riding different modes of momentum. Defending champions are of course allowed in. Top Five Fed Ex point players that want to play can. Career money factors in for eight more players. Sponsors are then allowed to pick whom they want to fill in the remainder of the field. Quite a mish mosh of players and teams that are comprised for the event. Even in the face of this fluctuation, there are teams that rise above the rest in terms of both favorite and darkhorse value.
Wagerable
Two teams have the edge over the rest in terms of either darkhorse value or being the favorite. Holmes and Reed are the linesmakers favorite and it is logical to see why they came to this conclusion. Incredible length off the tee is vital in this two man aspect and Holmes certainly has that. Reed is on a roll coming in and provides aspects that JD does not have. A very good combination of skill sets for this event. A duo that is way undervalued is the tandem of Cameron Tringale with Chris Kirk. Kirk is ranked low being forty but is quality material for the thinness of the team. Tringale was one half of the winning duo last year who needed a new partner because Jason Day is on maternity leave. A longshot price without the incredible risk that goes with it.
