Boca Raton, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Paul Goydos birdied the 18th hole on
Sunday to win the Allianz Championship by one stroke over Gene Sauers.
Goydos, who shared the second-round lead with Bart Bryant, Tom Pernice Jr. and
Rod Spittle, finished at 12-under-par 204. This was his second victory on the
Champions Tour.
Sauers fired a 5-under 67 to grab second place at minus-11 on The Old Course
at Broken Sound Club. Fred Funk and John Huston both closed with 6-under 66s
to end at 10-under 206. They were joined there by Michael Allen, who shot 67
on Sunday.
Jose Coceres soared into a tie for sixth thanks to a closing 9-under 63. He
ended alongside Jay Haas (69) and Tommy Armour III (66) at minus-9.
Bryant and Spittle both stumbled to 1-over 73s and they tied for ninth at 8-
under 208. Spittle faltered to a quintuple-bogey on the par-5 sixth. Pernice
was done in by a triple-bogey on the par-3 third. He shot 74 and finished in a
tie for 11th at minus-7.
