A fifth major is almost always in the discussion of both tennis and golf. Some events almost bring out as strong of a field, with equal paydays, and an advantageous place in the schedule earn this moniker. The Players Championship is that type of event in the PGA. Come with Apex Golf Betting as we handicap this super strong field for our Free Pick of the Week.
Sawgrass and Spieth
Even this combination does not bolster Jordan the status of favorite. He has been on such a streak that it was shocking not to see him atop all others in the odds. The over valued one in Rory (7-1) finally won something at 2015 and the books got lazy putting him on top once again. To see how far out of whack the lines makers are at this event, here are some oddities to ponder.
1. Sergio is far ahead of some others in pre tournament futures. It is laughable that he is above Bubba Watson as a favorite.
2. Martin Kaymer boosts near Everest high odds. A great price for a defending champion. His struggles have been huge but nothing like a familiar stomping ground to gain back form.
Pressure Everywhere
Front loading is a double edged practice. On the PGA tour and in this event, Rory, Spieth, and Jason Day are all together for a threesome for the first two days. A ratings boon but will they all feed off of each other or will at least one wilt under all that star power. Of course you could always go with the walking disaster tour with Kaymer and Woods put together. Their recent woes have seen falls from grace on the golf course as of late.
As for Sawgrass, one needs to be a bedrock for getting the ball in play. Off by a little bit and strokes are easily lost. One person that will receive little pub but slays it here is Zach Johnson. Every year of the last five except one has seen him in the top ten. He should be tailed in most any matchup for four rounds. He will be there so it is up to determining how much variance would be in his opponent. Choose wisely but Zach Johnson is where it is at with our Free Pick of the Week.
