Fifth Major : Players Championship Preview 5/12

An event that has the designation of being the fifth major will have special odds and props due to the expanded field.  Close to 144 golfers will try to conquer the TPC Sawgrass course this year.  Good Morning APEX Golf Betting fans as we attempt to tame this large field for plenty of profit.  The linesmakers will have their hands full with the variety of wager types involved in this one.  This is good news as there will be angles to exploit.  So let us kick off the coverage of the Players Championship right now at APEX Golf.

Come Prepared

A lot to digest with this tricky course coupled the international contingent here.  A logical start for both the novice and experienced handicapper is to read our Special Odds and Props in Golf piece.  After doing this, we can attack the course to see which players will do the best here.  TPC Sawgrass has a good distribution of par threes, fours, and fives.  However, the unusual green shapes coupled with the Bermuda roughs makes it really important to stay in the fairway.  Distance itself is not the king here.  This is why a golfer that has a hard time thinking outside the box like Bubba Watson will traditionally not do so well here.

Favorites with One Surprise

Jimmie Fowler is your defending champion and should be right up there to win it again this time.  He has had a quality 2016 so far with six Top Tens.  With him leading the tour in the all-around stat, he makes for a good head to head investment.  He should be a buy at +105 against Spieth and -105 against Jason Day.  One note of warning is that he should not be pitted against Rory McIlroy because he is a strong candidate to win here.  Rory crushes the tour in par fives and has top tens in both his last three events both at the Players and the 2016 tour events.  A +650 future to win should be heavily considered to your wagering prospects here.

Well what about the surprise.  Sergio Garcia has had a decent 2016 and does really well here.  He has made the cut everytime in this event.  Top Tens in his last three, his tee to green strokes gained is sixth on the tour will give him more value than his price against peers.  A lean on his -135 against Bubba Watson is one of the easier cashes a person can expect at the -135.  This is worthy of the 2x variety of units to be plunked down.

As the event comes closer, it behooves you to examine the offerings of the normal and special odds and props for this fifth major.  Lots of big names to rally for this weekend.  Odd to consider Sergio Garcia as our moneymaker but his tangible advantage over Bubba Watson begs to be bet on.  Good fortune this weekend as the TV coverage starts at 1PM on the Golf Channel for the 2016 Players Championship.
