Brown tops Geary in Australia

Sydney, Australia ( – Anthony Brown birdied the second
playoff hole to defeat Josh Geary and win the Mazda NSW Open on Sunday.

The victory was Brown’s first on the PGA Tour of Australasia. He closed with a
3-under 69 at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club to post 14-under-par 274. Josh
Geary, who shared the lead entering the final round, managed an even-par 72 to
force a playoff.

Brown, who was in the penultimate group, birdied the first, but gave that shot
back when he bogeyed the third. He parred the final six holes of the front

Around the turn, Brown birdied the 10th, 14th and 15th to move to 14-under.
After tripping to a bogey at the par-3 16th, Brown birdied the last to get in
first at minus-14.

Geary has two birdies and a bogey on the front nine. He bogeyed the 10th to
slip to even-par for his round. Geary traded a bogey for a birdie from the
14th and again from the 17th to force the extra session.

James Nitties, who shared the third-round lead with Geary, had three birdies
and two bogeys on the front side before mixing three birdies and three bogeys
with a double-bogey on the back nine. His 1-over 73 left him one shot back at

Amateur Gunn Yang closed with an even-par 72 to end alone in fourth place at
12-under-par 276. Rohan Blizard (69), Michael Long (70) and Matthew Giles (72)
shared fifth place at minus-10.
